Birmingham NEC Trip Last week Mam (Ali Crafts Designs) and I travelled to Birmingham to set up our stall at the The Stitching, Sewing and hobby crafts show at the NEC. Setting up the stand was great fun although we struggled to fit as much stock into the car as we would have liked to take. The show ran for four days and it was so lovely to meet other stall holders, customers and online followers. We even sold out of some patterns! I really can’t wait to do another show in the future.
What I bought I have been wanting to start knitting again (its probably been 20 years since I last knitted!) so I decided to treat myself to some new knitting needles. Luckily the stand next to us sold the most beautiful knitting needles, The Lace Knittery. I chose these pink 4.0mm needles, I got long and short set as I wasn’t sure which I preferred. So far I am finding the short needles really comfortable to use.
I have been wanting to make some wrist warmers as well, so I bought a lovely knitting kit from Home Farm Wensleydales which includes pattern, yarn and buttons. I have made one so far and really enjoying getting into knitting again.
The last item I bought was this cute little snowman cross-stitch kit from Nia Cross Stitch. Again it has been a long time since I have done some cross stitching but I thought this would make a great Christmas decoration.
What I am working on this week I have finished two small crochet projects this week, a doll and a hat. The patterns will be coming soon but here is some sneaky peaks 🙂
Thanks again to everyone who we spoke to over the weekend, we are hoping to book more shows next year.
We are nearing the end of the school holidays now, 1 week to go 🙂 I currently have a husband with a broken arm, 10 year old gaming fan who is glued to his gaming chair and 7 year old who has autism so that has meant we haven’t done too much over the holidays. My husband works from home so it has been quite hard balancing everything. I think we are all ready to get back into school/work routine.
Wool to your door news – I created a new yarn pack this week that includes two of the new Stylecraft special DK colours.
This is a six ball yarn pack at £10.50 which means you are getting each ball for £1.75. The colours are;
I think the colours work really nicely together and hope to use them in my next project. This yarn pack is called Rose garden.
What am I working on? – Squares squares squares 🙂 I have a slightly crazy idea for a blanket, so far I have made 17 squares for the blanket but I need 22 more. I am really enjoying it though and managing to fit some crocheting time even with the endless requests for food from the boys. We are going through an alarming amount of crisps during the holidays!!
I am using a crocheted square pattern from the Stockton Squares blanket pattern which is currently on sale (only £1.80). Once I have finished the squares I am planning a deep border using lots of different greens.
Ali Crafts Designs SALE – There is currently a sale over at Ali Crafts designs, initially it was just for the Bank Holiday Weekend but we have decided to extend the sale until the 1st September 2017. Why not grab yourself a bargain PDF download pattern…if you prefer printed patterns we sell them here at Wool to your door.
Hope everyone has a great week. Don’t forgot to give us a follow on Instagram – the link is the right hand side bar or search for “wool to your door”.
Yarn cakes seem be everywhere at the moment and are very popular with both knitters and crocheters. This week we were very excited when the brand new Stylecraft Special DK Candy Swirls arrived. These 150g cakes are available in eight different colours and we are also stocking a number of Candy Swirl patterns to help you decide what to make with them. £6.80 per cake.
We also currently stock Caron Cakes in ten fabulous colour ways and currently on sale at £7.30 per cake…
The blankets below were made using Caron Cake yarn…
Blanket Progress The weather has been much cooler this week and it seems to have rained for days. I have managed to make some progress on my Higgledy Piggledy Blanket, just one more panel to go then joining and the border.
Half Term It is half term this week in England so I haven’t had as much time as normal to crochet and update social media with both boys being off school. Looking forward to Mam and I having a day together next week to sort out some tasks. We are looking into some new yarns and hooks we want to sell.
Blanket progress The next section of Higgledy Piggledy Blanket I have chosen to do is the c2c panel. This section requires six colours, I am using tomato, gold, mustard, buttermilk, pistachio and sage. The great thing about this pattern is you can use any colours you want so makes a great stash buster.
I can’t believe it is now June, this year seems to be going very fast. I am really pleased with how many projects I have managed to finish this month. A new Rainbow 7 Ball Yarn Pack is now available on the website.
Blogs and social media Louise here again this week. We have decided that I will write the posts for Wool to your door and Mam will continue to work on Ali Crafts Designs blog. I tend to do most of the updates on social media for Wool to you door on Instagram and Facebook. On the left hand side bar you can now sign up for email blog updates as well.
What I am working on this week
I haven’t done too much crocheting this week but starting to make progress on my version of the Higgledy Piggledy Blanket Printed Pattern and Yarn Pack Retro Colours. Really enjoying the variety of stitches and techniques. I leant to crochet when I was very young but stopped. I took it back up about three years ago, so I am still learning and trying to improve my techniques.
New on the shop Yarn packs are very popular so we have added a few new ones this week. 6 balls of Stylecraft special yarns are £10.50 per pack.
Lower price Jeanie We have decided to lower the price of the Jeanie yarn, it is now £4.40 per ball. This yarn is available in four denim inspired colours, it is a mixture of 40% Premium Acrylic and 60% Cotton.
It has been a busy week at Wool to your door, we both have lots of projects on at the moment. I have managed to finish two blankets. These have been really relaxing to make and something I could pick up easily in between the housework, looking after the boys and husband with a broken arm 🙂
My next task was to choose a new project. I want to make a blanket which will match my living room, it is a very neutral room with lots of browns, yellow and copper colours. One cushion has lots of blues, greens and golds in so I am also adding these in to make the blanket more colourful to add more interest into the room.
I started by looking through the bag of oddments and found a few suitable colours. With this blanket I wanted to use some of the Stylecraft Special DK colours which I have never used before such as the 3 new colours, plus tomato and storm blue.
Higgledy Piggledy Blanket is made up of 6 panels, each panel using a different stitch pattern or squares which will help me learn new techniques.
Inspiration from our living room…
These are the colours I have picked and I am loving them…these are available as a yarn pack for £28
I will keep you updated with my progress, currently darning in lots of ends 🙂
