Hello, hope you are all having a great week and crafting some super projects. We have been preparing for the Stitching, Sewing & Hobbycrafts show at the Birmingham NEC this week. This is the first time I have been to the show and Mam keeps saying its very hard work to set up and run the stand. If you are coming don’t forget to pop along and say hello.
Half term It is half term for us this week, so the boys are off school and we haven’t got much planned at all. George, my eldest son seems to like to spend most of his time at my parent’s house at the moment to get a break from his little brother. It feels like two minutes ago since the summer holidays.
Kevin Blanket Over the weekend I completed my Kevin blanket (funny name really but it was named after a minion as the original blanket is made minion colours 🙂 ). I chose to make mine in the mushroom and sage yarn pack colours as I wanted to show how different the blanket could look in different colours. I did a random colour change as well and made the blanket smaller. I was struggling a bit with the border but Mam talked me through how to make it. I really don’t enjoy stitches where you have to take the hook out of the loop and back in, seems to take me ages but I was really happy with the finished effect and it was worth it.
Christmas Wreath I have also been crocheting a Christmas wreath to match my Christmas tree blanket. I am at the tricky stage of trying to attach the green wrapping to the metal frame and wadding. Then it will be time for more pom poms!
Currently its all stitch markers, wadding and many many ends.
Stylecraft Special DK Starter Pack We have put together a new yarn pack this week, Stylecraft Special Starter pack. We thought this would be great for beginners who were wanting to start building up a yarn stash or anyone wanting to just expand their yarn stash. The pack includes ten balls for £17.50 in these colours…
It has been a while since my last blog update. The last few weeks have been really busy as we are trying to get everything prepared for the Birmingham NEC show in November, also my youngest son has been off school with a nasty cough.
Virus Shawl Progress
Ali and I went to a Virus shawl workshop a couple of weeks ago at Woolabaloo, it was so lovely to enjoy four hours of peaceful crocheting time. I decided to crochet the shawl from the chart pattern rather than the written pattern. Once the chart was explained I found it relatively easy to follow, after the first four rows are done you soon get into the flow of crocheting the shawl.
Is it too early to mention Christmas? The shops seem to be in full Christmas mode already. If you are wanting to make some Christmas crochet items it is always a good idea to get started nice and early. It took me two years to make a Christmas blanket once, at least I have it ready to use this year 🙂
Christmas Printed patterns (if you prefer PDF downloads you can find them on Ali Crafts Designs)
Christmas Tree Blanket The pattern is also now available for the Christmas Tree blanket or if you prefer you can also get the printed pattern plus the required yarn to make the blanket.
Just a quick update about our new Stylecraft yarn packs. Buying the yarn in packs is more cost effective, making each ball just £1.75. Today is the first day of autumn, the weather is certainly feeling cooler and it has just started raining on my nearly dry washing. We have added some new yarn packs onto the site this week that have a halloween and autumnal feel to them.
This pack was inspired by the famous coffee drink, lots of warm spicy colours and muted browns.
Christmas Tree Blanket
We have decided to make the Christmas Tree blanket into a pattern, it is now available on Ali Crafts website, ravelry and Etsy. You can also purchase the printed pattern with the yarn needed to make the blanket.
We are nearing the end of the school holidays now, 1 week to go 🙂 I currently have a husband with a broken arm, 10 year old gaming fan who is glued to his gaming chair and 7 year old who has autism so that has meant we haven’t done too much over the holidays. My husband works from home so it has been quite hard balancing everything. I think we are all ready to get back into school/work routine.
Wool to your door news – I created a new yarn pack this week that includes two of the new Stylecraft special DK colours.
This is a six ball yarn pack at £10.50 which means you are getting each ball for £1.75. The colours are;
I think the colours work really nicely together and hope to use them in my next project. This yarn pack is called Rose garden.
What am I working on? – Squares squares squares 🙂 I have a slightly crazy idea for a blanket, so far I have made 17 squares for the blanket but I need 22 more. I am really enjoying it though and managing to fit some crocheting time even with the endless requests for food from the boys. We are going through an alarming amount of crisps during the holidays!!
I am using a crocheted square pattern from the Stockton Squares blanket pattern which is currently on sale (only £1.80). Once I have finished the squares I am planning a deep border using lots of different greens.
Ali Crafts Designs SALE – There is currently a sale over at Ali Crafts designs, initially it was just for the Bank Holiday Weekend but we have decided to extend the sale until the 1st September 2017. Why not grab yourself a bargain PDF download pattern…if you prefer printed patterns we sell them here at Wool to your door.
Hope everyone has a great week. Don’t forgot to give us a follow on Instagram – the link is the right hand side bar or search for “wool to your door”.
Final Clearance – On Wednesday we decided to reduce some prices on certain yarns. This is the last chance to buy these yarns, once they have gone they have gone, so its a great time to grab a bargain. Final Clearance
Ross Blanket Yarn Pack The BBC’s Poldark series returned to our screens this week. Stylecraft are starting a CAL (crochet a long) in July, which is a blanket designed by Catherine Bligh and the colours chosen were based on the series. More details about the CAL can be found here. If you are interested in joining in with the CAL we have put together the yarn pack with the required colours…16 balls of Stylecraft Special DK – £28 and free UK delivery Ross Blanket Yarn Pack
Blanket Progress – Another busy week of school meetings and keeping up with housework. I have baked a banana loaf this morning and its starting to smell delicious. Fingers crossed it turns out well as I have used the wrong type of flour 🙂 My Higgledy Piggledy Blanket is slowly progressing but I am really enjoying how varied each panel is.
Caron Cake June Sale – Hope everyone has had a lovely week. The weather in the North East has been very wet which has meant my washing pile is getting out of control, its nearly as tall as me 🙂 Caron cakes are now only £9.25 during June.
Blanket Progress – I haven’t had too much time to crochet this week. One boy was off school on Monday and the other boy was off on Tuesday, made for a slightly longer half term. I have finished the c2c (corner 2 corner) panel of the Higgledy Piggledy Blanket.
Yarn Packs – Some new yarn packs have been added onto the website today.
Emily Crochet Doll Pattern – Ali has put a new pattern up on the Ali Crafts Design site. This is a PDF pattern download for Emily, she is a sitting doll with floppy legs.
Half Term It is half term this week in England so I haven’t had as much time as normal to crochet and update social media with both boys being off school. Looking forward to Mam and I having a day together next week to sort out some tasks. We are looking into some new yarns and hooks we want to sell.
Blanket progress The next section of Higgledy Piggledy Blanket I have chosen to do is the c2c panel. This section requires six colours, I am using tomato, gold, mustard, buttermilk, pistachio and sage. The great thing about this pattern is you can use any colours you want so makes a great stash buster.
I can’t believe it is now June, this year seems to be going very fast. I am really pleased with how many projects I have managed to finish this month. A new Rainbow 7 Ball Yarn Pack is now available on the website.
Blogs and social media Louise here again this week. We have decided that I will write the posts for Wool to your door and Mam will continue to work on Ali Crafts Designs blog. I tend to do most of the updates on social media for Wool to you door on Instagram and Facebook. On the left hand side bar you can now sign up for email blog updates as well.
What I am working on this week
I haven’t done too much crocheting this week but starting to make progress on my version of the Higgledy Piggledy Blanket Printed Pattern and Yarn Pack Retro Colours. Really enjoying the variety of stitches and techniques. I leant to crochet when I was very young but stopped. I took it back up about three years ago, so I am still learning and trying to improve my techniques.
New on the shop Yarn packs are very popular so we have added a few new ones this week. 6 balls of Stylecraft special yarns are £10.50 per pack.
Lower price Jeanie We have decided to lower the price of the Jeanie yarn, it is now £4.40 per ball. This yarn is available in four denim inspired colours, it is a mixture of 40% Premium Acrylic and 60% Cotton.
It has been a busy week at Wool to your door, we both have lots of projects on at the moment. I have managed to finish two blankets. These have been really relaxing to make and something I could pick up easily in between the housework, looking after the boys and husband with a broken arm 🙂
My next task was to choose a new project. I want to make a blanket which will match my living room, it is a very neutral room with lots of browns, yellow and copper colours. One cushion has lots of blues, greens and golds in so I am also adding these in to make the blanket more colourful to add more interest into the room.
I started by looking through the bag of oddments and found a few suitable colours. With this blanket I wanted to use some of the Stylecraft Special DK colours which I have never used before such as the 3 new colours, plus tomato and storm blue.
Higgledy Piggledy Blanket is made up of 6 panels, each panel using a different stitch pattern or squares which will help me learn new techniques.
Inspiration from our living room…
These are the colours I have picked and I am loving them…these are available as a yarn pack for £28
I will keep you updated with my progress, currently darning in lots of ends 🙂
Spring is in the air this week. To celebrate we thought we would put together a new pattern and yarn pack. I always try to name blanket patterns after place names. I asked my daughter for an idea and she suggested ‘Brighton’ as the colours are beach like and the pattern has a shell like feel.
This blanket is worked in 6 colours. I used Stylecraft Special DK yarn as I really enjoy using it and just love the colour choices. It sometimes takes me a great deal of time to narrow down designs to a few colours. The pack including the pattern is £12.50 which you can buy online using our secure website,….Brighton Blanket Yarn Pack and Pattern. If you don’t want to buy online you can give me a call and I will be happy to take orders over the phone.
You can also now follow Wool to your door on Instagram, where I will be posting updates and offers. I have just placed a large order for wool, and I can’t wait for it to arrive, although I am not looking forward to finding somewhere to store it.
